NOTICE OF OFFICE CLOSING
As of December 31, 2016, I will be closing my law practice due to retirement. If you are
a former client, I want to thank you for allowing me to represent or advise you in your legal
matter. Please contact my office and arrange a time to come by and pick up your file by
December 15, 2016.
After December 15, 2016, if you have not made arrangements to pick up your file
yourself, then it is my intent to destroy my copy of your legal file unless you notify me in writing
immediately that you do not want me to follow this procedure.
If you select destruction, the files will be physically destroyed by a method that will
preserve client confidentiality. You will not be charged for this service.
Clients not responding by 12/15/2016 will have their file(s) destroyed. If you wish the
records returned, please contact us to arrange transfer of your file.
Richard C. Burton
We are attempting now to serve the Middle Class which has largely been priced out of legal services. Towards that end, my paralegal Teri Smith and I will be offering attorney- supervised paralegal services in family law (divorce, paternity actions, and support actions) and real estate, as well as attorney consultations, advice, coaching, and limited scope representations in these matters.
Our overhead is low, having closed down my traditional downtown Nevada City office. We especially welcome people who want to take personal responsibility for their actions, and who want to heal and learn as they go through their divorce or parenting action.
We also welcome couples who are contemplating marriage and wish to consult jointly with an experienced family law attorney regarding their rights, the potential financial downsides of marriage, and to explore whether a prenuptial agreement would benefit them or is even necessary.
Richard Burton is a lawyer with over 30 years of legal experience in Nevada County and has completed graduate studies in humanistic psychology.
Richard prides himself in giving objective advice, and giving clients options as to how best to approach a given case (i.e. getting you what you need, while lessening the likelihood of inadvertently triggering a hostile and expensive response from the other party.
Experience has shown that while aggressive representation is sometimes advisable and effective, it should be used with discretion, after at least considering a less contentious approach.
Teri has over 15 years of experience in family law, is thorough, efficient, and extremely competent.
